The Best Sunday Roast in Dublin

1. Hawksmoor
On Sundays, Hawksmoor Dublin offers a sumptuous Sharing Roast menu which includes a selection of sharing starters, the famous beef roast for main course and a choice of puddings to finish. With two private dining rooms available, None the Wiser and Croom a Boo, this would be an amazing Day Two option for family.
A whole rump of 35-day dry-aged beef is super-slow cooked, first on real charcoal and finished in the oven and served in cast-iron skillets with bone marrow gravy and side like like macaroni cheese to tantalise your tastebuds. Large sharing puddings complete the feast, so leave space for dessert.

2. FX Buckley
FX Buckley is renowned for its exceptional meats, all cooked in Josper charcoal ovens. This method infuses the meat with a smoky sweetness while the high heat adds a subtle, irresistible crispiness. Roast rib of beef, Yorkshire pudding, creamy mash, duck fat roast potatoes, confit shallots, roast carrots and tenderstem broccoli with roast gravy will set you back €28. We highly advise adding a Bloody Mary, which is made with a blend of spicy F.X. Buckley seasoning, tomato juice, fresh lemon and vodka (€11).

3. The Old Spot
A cosy and - dare we say it? - elegant gastropub on the south side of town, The Old Spot is perfect for an up-market hangover lunch, particularly when everyone in your party is an enthusiastic meat eater (although for vegetarians and pescatarians, there are lots of tempting non-roast dishes). Choose between beer-roasted free range chicken, with sausage, sage and onion stuffing (€28) and Pat McLoughlin's dry-aged roast beef (€32), both of which are served with duck fat roast potatoes, roast carrots, cabbage & peas, cauliflower cheese, stuffing and gravy.

4. The Butcher Grill
This meat-centric eatery in Ranelagh Village is a must-visit for roast lovers, offering both a Saturday and Sunday roast. Guests can choose from The Butcher Grill's beef striploin (€31), a succulent rack of pork, or a classic roast chicken (€26), each served with all the traditional trimmings — golden Yorkshire puddings, rich stuffing, indulgent gravy, and perfectly crisp duck fat roast potatoes. It’s a hearty, carb-heavy feast that’s ideal for a leisurely weekend lunch or a relaxed dinner with friends and family.

5. Brookwood
Having built its reputation on steaks, Brookwood is a clear front-runner if you’re after a beef-based Sunday roast. Here, you’ll find Prime Roast Striploin served with all the trimmings — Yorkshire puddings, roast vegetables, mash potato, and gravy. It’s one of the pricier roasts in town at €29, but it’s renowned for its quality and flavour. Served through the afternoon into the early evening, it’s perfect for a leisurely lunch that stretches into dinner.

Plus optional sides such as smokey beans and mash and bone marrow butter will be hard to resist.

7. The Paddocks
A buzzy neighbourhood pub with a much fawned-over carvery lunch, The Paddocks is also home to the one of the city's best vegan Sunday roasts! While pork, turkey, beef and bacon (from €16.95) are, of course, on the menu, their beef and turkey joint-style vegan roasts, served with sage stuffing, olive oil mash, red wine gravy and a wealth of vegetables make it one of the most inclusive spots on our list.

No ordinary roast, at L. Mulligan Grocer you'll find everything from a crispy egg on your bacon and cabbage to black pudding bonbons and dukkah on your lamb, all from a different supplier each week. We can say with authority whatever you order will be drizzled in the most delicious gravy you'll ever taste. Not to mention that there's a delicious vegan and vegetarian roast on offer too.

Diners can choose between dry-aged roast beef (€28.50) or roast free-range chicken (€25), each served with duck fat roast potatoes, seasonal greens, confit garlic, and rich gravy. The chicken comes with onion & sage stuffing, while the beef is paired with buttermilk Yorkshire puddings. Perfect for anyone craving true comfort food to round off the week.

Hearty, comforting, and perfectly cooked, The Legal Eagle serves up classic Sunday roasts with all the trimmings — roast potatoes, green cabbage, honeyed carrots and parsnips, turnip and carrot purée, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, and rich gravy. Options include the Nut Roast (€22, V/Vegetarian) — just the Yorkshire puddings and stuffing aren’t vegan, but extra veggies make up for it — the indulgent Pigs on the Green pork belly (€24), succulent oven-roasted chicken (€24), and the premium Black Angus striploin beef (€27). You can also add cauliflower cheese or garlic-buttered cabbage for an extra touch of comfort.
