A Chic & Sleek Celebration in NYC: Kaitlyn & Taylor's 501 Union Wedding

A city wedding with some serious style

We're all about love stories and Kaitlyn and Taylor's one is basically a modern rom-com brought to life. For what began on Tinder, and a proposal in the Big Apple - led to their forever and this “full of love and full of NYC chic” celebration. It was truly everything they dreamed of, set against the stunning backdrop of 501 Union, a modern venue in Brooklyn, New York known for its stylish wedding spaces and epic rooftop views. For all you city celebration dreamers, you'll love this one!

Bursting with gorgeous blooms, epic bride and groom style, a breath-taking rooftop first look and emotional speeches, it was the perfect first chapter in their marriage. The setting, the style, the decor, the sentiment - the organisation! - there's so much stylish city wedding ideas and inspiration packed into this one captured wonderfully by Carole Cohen Photography.

First things first, let's find out how these lovebirds got together, shall we? Kaitlyn and Taylor met where most modern love stories begin, on Hinge! " I matched with my (now) husband and made the first move!", Kaitlyn tells. The pair met up, hit it off, and the rest as they say is history.

They began dating, and while on a night out in the city, Taylor proposed to Kaitlyn surrounded by their friends. Kaitlyn fills us in, "He did it at Bar Pisellino in NYC. The plan was for me to meet my friends there, which I did, but then he surprised me by showing up at the bar - stopped the music and did it in front of everyone! It was so special. We celebrated there with my friends over our favorite martinis and then headed to one of our special places, The Mark hotel. We had a lovely dinner there and stayed overnight in one of the fabulous suites. The next morning was another surprise! The brunch we were supposed to go to with friends turned out to be a surprise party with my parents and closest friends/family from across the country. It was truly priceless and I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect day. It was just what I wanted."

Once engaged the pair began planning a day for their 135 guests that was "full of love and full of NYC chic!". The bride says, "My friends make fun of me but all I wanted was to be “NY chic” and I think everything we had planned reflected that! We also wanted our friends to feel like it was a big celebration/party of love and it was the absolute most fun day of our lives."

And as for their main priorities? Kaitlyn says, "Outside of making sure it reflected our love, that it was within our budget!".

The perfect spot for their chic New York celebration day? 501 Union in Brooklyn, a unique and lovingly renovated car restoration garage that blends old-time architecture with contemporary style. When asked what made it “the one” for them, the bride says, "I loved the modern, yet sleek vibe. I also knew I wanted my color scheme to be black white and neutrals, which was reflected in the space wonderfully." She adds, We also LOVED the cocktail room area!".

On a chilly March day Kaitlyn and Taylor exchanged I do’s and Ada Diamonds wedding bands in the ceremony space at 501 Union and their loved ones were given the honor to conduct the ceremony. " I loved that we had Taylors friends be our officiants. It was personal, fun and you could really hear our love story through them."

Afterward, the couple took advantage of the picturesque day and ventured onto the streets with their bridal party for photos.

Kaitlyn wore the Sarah Seven Viviana gown which she found at the Sarah Seven boutique in Soho. Her dress was a strapless number with a structured bodice and detachable ruffle sleeves,  which she paired with a soft, pearl-embellished tulle veil and 'something blue' embellished bow heels from Badgley Mischka.

She completed her wedding day look with Gucci pearl drop earrings and a blue feather clutch.

Taylor rocked a dapper custom-made black tie ensemble, while his groomsmen matched in suits from Black Tux.

In the reception space, guests were blown away by the modern setting and dinner tables adorned with contemporary floral displays by Floral Soiree, knot-tied napkins and lots of romantic candle light.

The couple made their entrance and went into their first dance on the dance floor, as I’m With You by Vance Joy played.

Kaitlyn and Taylor opted not to have a wedding cake, instead choosing a Champagne tower to wow their guests. Looking back on their day, Kaitlyn remembers fondly their speeches, in particular her dad's father-of-the-bride speech. "It was short, but meaningful because my dad is not one for public speaking and was very nervous up there."

After planning such a stylish day, the couple have this stellar advice for other couples currently wedding planning, "Try and preplan more 1:1 time with your partner, and tell your planner/coordinator this is a must! We thought we planned ahead for this but after the day got started we realized we didn’t spend as much time taking it all in by ourselves as we would have wanted."

After their New York City celebrations, the couple jetted off on a romantic Italian honeymoon, which they say they'd highly recommend. "We went to Lake Como, Tuscany, Florence, Sorrento and Rome"
