Love Takes Flight: Rachel & Mark's Timeless Spring Wedding with an Aviation Spin

With the cutest tabby cat cake toppers!

On a beautiful day in May, Rachel and Mark wed in spectacular style at the scenic Old Rectory Killyman in Co. Tyrone. 90 of their favourite people joined them for their spring wedding where they tied the knot in the breathtaking botanical-inspired ceremony room. With a timeless and romantic aesthetic, white florals and hints of sage green created a bright and airy spring feel. Rachel and Mark are both pilots and they brought the sweetest aviation twist to their reception styling, you won't be able to stop swooning. We know you'll fall in love as you check out the natural and relaxed documentary-style wedding photography by Sheena T Photography below.

Let's get to know our lovely couple more. They are from Northern Ireland, Mark is from Dundonald and Rachel is from Newtownards where they live today.

We're swooning over the gorgeous getting ready outfits!

They sipped bubbles from ribbed champagne glasses adorned with personalised ribbons. So chic!

The couple first met back in 2014 when they were members of the Ulster Flying Club and they were training to qualify for their Private Pilot Licences. Rachel tells us, "Mark was already working in Belfast City Airport as a baggage handler and I started working there in the summer of 2015 as a flight dispatcher. It was then we began getting to know each other better and Mark would always appear at the flights I was dispatching even if he was meant to be working on a different one nearby! He asked me if I'd like to fly down to Enniskillen for lunch on one of our days off and the rest is history! We officially became a couple on 10th November 2015 so it is fast approaching our 10-year anniversary."

Their elegant stationery by Keyhole Creations included a beautiful illustration of their ceremony space, the Garden Room.

Mark picked a spot they adore to propose. He popped the question on 28th October 2020 on the golden sandy shore of Whitepark Bay on the north coast of Northern Ireland. "It had always been a favourite place of ours to visit on one of our many road trips together so I didn't think anything of it when he asked me if I'd like to take a trip there that day. We arrived there late afternoon just as it was starting to rain and I wondered why he was so worried about the weather! We got out of the car and went for a walk despite the rain and just as the sky started to clear he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him."

Brimming with ethereal elegance, Rachel's bouquet included stock, eucalyptus, Persian buttercups, and roses.

They dreamt of a timeless and elegant wedding aesthetic and they wanted their celebration to have a relaxed vibe. She explains, "The most important thing to us was keeping the day true to us as a couple and having our closest friends and family there to spend it with."

Rachel was breathtaking wearing a floral lace and tulle gown from Pearls and Lace Bridal which she styled beautifully with heels with pretty pearl straps from Lace and Favour, jewellery from Lily & Roo, and a floral lace veil.

Rachel made her ceremony entrance to You Are the Reason by Calum Scott, how magical...

With 360 degree views of the picturesque gardens and loaded with lush foliage, the Garden Room was a truly captivating setting for the couple to exchange vows.

Jean Barrett Quinn officiated their humanist ceremony. "It was made so special by her taking the time to get to know us both and then telling our story."

The couple included beautiful rituals in their ceremony, a handfasting and ring warming ritual. Rachel's mum hand-embroidered their initials and wedding date onto their handfasting ribbons and also the bag that held their wedding rings for the ring warming.

She reflects, "This made it all the more special and I'm so grateful that we have these mementos to keep from our ceremony. We also asked our mums to each place a ribbon during the handfasting. My mum Joanne placed a ribbon representing my side of the family, Mark's mum Janette placed one to represent his side and then finally Jean placed one to represent us as a couple our new life together and then finally they were all tied together. We both really wanted to find a way to include our mums in the wedding as quite often they get overlooked with the dads taking on the role of speeches etc so including them in the ceremony was very important to us."

This Will Be an Everlasting Love by Natalie Cole was the perfect song to walk down the aisle into married life.

They first viewed the venue in early 2021, not long after it had opened. "We absolutely loved it then however we eventually decided we wanted to buy our first home before saving for a wedding so we did that and revisited the wedding planning in 2023. We viewed the Old Rectory again as they had just opened the Garden Room ceremony space and we instantly fell in love with it and could really picture ourselves getting married there so we booked our date straight away."

The couple loved the fact that they could hold the entire celebration in the one place but at the same time their guests had freedom to roam and were not confined to one area for the entire day. "We thought the Old Rectory was perfect for this as they have so many different spaces - you can have your ceremony in the Garden Room then move on to the bar and teepee area for your drinks reception and then finally to the stunning Grand Pavillion for the evening. Not to mention the beautiful grounds and house meaning you can easily have all of your photographs taken on site as well."

The bridesmaids were the sweetest sight in light sage gowns from Reflections Bridal Studio with cowl necklines.

Smashing! The dapper groom and his groomsmen wore elegant suits from Collar and Tie Lisburn and their accessories included fun and colourful print socks.

They wanted their wedding to be personal to them as a couple and their love story. "We wanted a big celebration of the beginning of the next chapter of our lives together surrounded by our closest friends and family and to finish the day off with a great party!" Before they even started planning they knew they wanted to have a humanist wedding. They explain, "That way our story could be at the heart of the ceremony and we could really tailor it to include the elements we wanted so it would be meaningful to us."

She shed more light on the look and feel of the celebration, "The aesthetic I was going for was timeless and romantic with muted colours, I'm a neural girl through and through so I knew our wedding would be no different! I went for sage green bridesmaid dresses and white florals to tie in with the bright and airy spring vibe!"

Their reception styling exuded effortless elegance and included sage green table runners, white taper candles, and modern brass candlestick holders. The sweetest accent? The wooden plane ornaments that they used to display the table numbers which gave a nod to their love of aviation.

While their two tabby cats Alice and Margot could not be at the wedding they were there in spirit in the form of adorable personalised cake toppers with a sweet sign saying "We do too! 31.05.25".

"We're both not keen on being in front of the camera or the centre of attention so we really wanted the day to be as relaxed as possible which was definitely made possible by the calming atmosphere of the Old Rectory as well as our photographer Sheena Thompson and videographer Jamie Donovan - they made sure the day ran smoothly and that we also had fun!"

Their personalised heart-shaped sunglasses were very popular with their guests.

Communication is one of the most important elements of the wedding planning process they share. "Discuss what elements of the day are a priority to you both and this will influence what venue and suppliers you book. Finally it's easier said than done but try to enjoy the process as it all goes by so quickly. Don't be afraid to ask for help and support from your partner or friends and family so you can more easily enjoy the planning and fully take in the special occasion!"

Such a gorgeous confetti moment!

Their first dance was to Wherever You Are by Kodaline. "We are both airline pilots and have therefore been long distance a few times during our relationship so that song means a lot to us personally."

Why have one breathtaking wedding dress when you can have two? Rachel wowed in a second dress, a sleek gown with an exposed back from The Bridal Company Northern Ireland.

A massive thank you to Rachel and Mark for sharing their special day with One Fab Day and a huge thanks also to Sheena T Photography for the divine images. See even more pictures in the gallery below.
