Joy personified! Today's real wedding featuring the wonderful Rebecca and Joe was saturated in vibrant and uber-pretty hues. The bride planned and styled their stunning special day at Hillmount House in Co. Antrim and creating a happy, joyous and warm atmosphere was absolutely essential. The couple wanted their guests to eat, drink and be merry while feeling absolutely surrounded by love.
We know your jaw will drop when you see Rebecca's sensational bridal look and the colour pop flowers with a sweet tie to her granny's garden were nothing short of dazzling. Lovers of the outdoors, the couple tied the knot in a sun-kissed ceremony on the lawn with sparkling sea views. With wonderful DIY decor, table plans with a pub twist, a mesmerising wedding cake meadow, a stunning tribute to the bride's beloved late father, and more you really won't want to miss a moment of their magical day wonderfully photographed by The Lous.

Let's begin with their love story. They met in work, Rebecca started working at the RCGP (Royal College of GPs) in March 2017 a couple of months after Joe had joined. "As we were in different teams, our paths took a while to cross but the opportunity arose when we joined the same training course off site. A couple of moves around the office and we soon found ourselves sitting across from one another. As a very social pair, there were soon opportunities to mingle. Flirty exchanges ensued at various social gatherings; there was a tense game of giant Jenga, Joe asked Rebecca to join him and his friends at 'beer club' and before we knew it, it was cuffing season and we had a date lined up."

We love their proposal story. Rebecca reminisces, "The day after a family wedding in NI, we embarked on a two week trip around Scotland. The trip would tie in all our favourite things… being in the outdoors, great pubs, fantastic scenery etc. A quick flight to Aberdeen and a picturesque drive, we were near Elgin for the first night of our trip. We were staying in a beautiful cabin overlooking expansive fields and the ruins of Duffus Castle. Joe wanted to enjoy the scenery before the sun would set. So we set off up towards the ruins. It was stunning, the sun was low in the sky over field after fields of golden wheat, and right in the middle was a beautiful, deserted ruin. When we got to the bottom of the mound where the ruins stood, Joe swiftly turned around and got on one knee." Rebecca's reaction was absolutely adorable...

"In usual understated fashion, Joe said, 'Well…?' and in usual excessive fashion, Rebecca screamed a lot and shouted, 'Are you serious!?' repeatedly. When the screaming would not stop, Joe asked Rebecca properly to which she finally responded, 'Of course!' We walked to the top of the ruins where we sat and enjoyed the sun setting over the fields for a long while. We returned to the cabin and then headed out on a little pub crawl around Elgin. Our taxi driver was the first person we told."

Their decor included a confetti and Tayto crisps walls, so cool! A feel of festival fun came courtesy of the bunting that Rebecca hand made from crepe and old clothes. "It took many painstaking weeks to make but it looked fantastic, and brought yet more colour to the day."

The magnificent blooms were curated by the bride's sister who is a florist. Brimming with bright hues, the displays incorporated sweetpea and hydrangea to mimic their granny’s garden when they were growing up.

The grooms party wore elegant navy suits with boutonnieres adding a pop of brightness.

Their niece Isabella was an adorable vision wearing a fit and flare dress boasting whimsical embroidery and a romantic flower crown to match.

We couldn't be more in love with Rebecca's bridal look which was brimming with fabulous textures which included a Charlie Brear wedding dress with feathered accents, a sparkling bead and pearl hairband by Aura Bridalwear and an iconic pair of bridal shoes, the Camellia pleated bow heels by Loeffler Randall.

The bride shines more light on the aesthetic of their celebration, "We wanted to have the most colourful day. My thinking was 'maypoles and meadows' - which I fell we achieved with the flowers and bunting."

Their ceremony included a handfasting ritual, the ceremony reading of the song Detectorists by Johnny Flynn and a wonderful confetti exit.

That 'Just Married' feeling!

It was the homeliness and charm of Hillmount House that made it 'the one'. "Andrew and Simon are truly the most kind, trustworthy and special hosts. We went to a wedding there once and knew we couldn’t get married anywhere else. They really give over their home to you and they just love doing what they do – it’s infectious."

Rebecca designed all the stationery with the seating plan and table numbers boasting illustrations of their favourite pubs around the UK hand-drawn by Jamie Millar. They had them framed and they now hang proudly in their living room.

Their reception exuded gentle rusticism and elegant whimsy. So enchanting!

As a true Englishman, Joe was adamant there be some real ale on offer! "Getting local ales from Charles at Ards Brewing was fabulous. We got to visit and do a tasting in his brewery. It was great to support local ale and share it with our visitors from the mainland."

If you're looking for inspiration of how to preserve your bouquet take a chapter from Rebecca book. Her sister had her bouquet pressed to make a huge A1 artwork of them.

Rebecca's bridesmaids looked glorious in satin hunter green bridesmaids dresses by Rewritten and Archive12 with mix-and-match necklines.

We audibly gasped when we saw their wedding cake meadow display.

Rebecca wanted their wedding to be a celebration of her beloved late father who she had lost a few years before. Remembering him, surrounded by family and friends, felt so important to the day. The bride, her sister and her uncle all made speeches in the afternoon honouring him. They also had a boutonniere and poem displayed for him as well as a gallery of absent friends.

Their lawn games included Jenga (which gave a sweet nod to their love story), badminton and Xs and Os. They gifted homemade wedding favours of wildflower seeds and bookmarks design by Rebecca.

"If you aim to do one thing a week, it’s amazing what you can achieve in a year," she says when asked for her wedding planning advice.

A moment for Rebecca's personalised bridal Converse. Swoon!

Rebecca and Joe went to the Cotswolds for our mini moon where they checked into The Rectory Hotel. "It was dreamy! We are headed off to Canada for three weeks next year, we wanted the time to plan something special (and recover from the wedding!)."

Congratulations Rebecca and Joe! A very special thank you to our fabulous couple and The Lous for sharing today's magical Hillmount House celebration with One Fab Day. Be sure to check out the gallery for more stunning images.
