We’ve had our share of amazing brides that have graced the pages of One Fab Day, but perhaps none as fiercely beautiful and inspiring as this one. After being diagnosed with breast cancer just a few short months into planning her wedding, courageous bride Marguerite chose to bring her wedding forward, planning it in just under two weeks to marry her beloved Alex. She's reminded us that the true beauty behind a wedding is in the love and strength two people can give one another—not the dress, shoes, flowers or even cake can shine as bright. From their sweet ceremony, to the bridal party and guests wearing pink, to the groom administering his wife's medication, it's love at it's finest, and we're simply honoured to share Marguerite and Alex's love story and beautiful wedding day as captured by Sidney Scheinberg.

Let's get to know these wonderful lovebirds a little better, shall we? Today's wonderful couple are Marguerite and Alexander. Alex is from the Los Angeles area, while Marguerite grew up in Washington DC, but spent summers on Cape Cod. The pair live in Los Angeles, but are currently based in Massachusetts for Marguerite's treatment at Dana Farber Cancer treatment centre.

A truly modern love story, the pair met and matched on bumble! "Neither of us wanted to go, but once we met we were inseparable!", the bride laughs.

After falling head over heels for each other, Alex proposed to Marguerite on Orcas Island in Washington state early one July morning and even mapped out where the sun would be during the proposal. How sweet! Marguerite fills us in, "Alex had words planned, but didn’t say any of them. He promised me we’d go on fun adventures for the rest of our lives, but forgot to ask the big question! He proposed with his great-grandmother’s beautiful ring - her name was also Marguerite. It was so special for me to wear."

Not long after the excitement of their proposal, the couple were hit with the devastating news that Marguerite had breast cancer. To allow for the bride's chemotherapy treatment, the couple moved up their wedding date and planned their 100 person wedding in just under two weeks.

"Since we planned it VERY quickly in the setting of my breast cancer diagnosis, we really prioritized an intimate, joyful feeling", the bride tells. "We wanted people to be comfortable, and feel the love."

"October is breast cancer month, so we asked for pink. We wanted a soft and elegant, almost nature-inspired feel."

Along with the bride's mum helping with the wedding coordination, the couple worked with their planner Allison of Elegant Engagements Cape Cod to design a celebration that felt both natural and elegant, and in a short time frame. The couple's original wedding plans were to have a tent built into the trees in Marguerite's parent’s yard, so their planner Allison brought in tons of greenery and faux trees into their reception space to give the couple that feel.

"My mom pretty much planned everything alongside with Allison our planner, and it was a wonderful surprise to walk into the most gorgeous, romantic, pink room. We had a fantastic dinner of steak frites, roasted chicken, fall squash trio, roasted Brussel sprouts, and an ice cream sundae bar. We chose not to have a band or big dance party, as it didn’t feel right to us. Instead, the night was filled with thoughtful, hilarious speeches from our family members and close friends. We will hopefully have a big party once my treatment is complete!

The venue was a close-to-home choice, too: the Oyster Harbors Club, a country club in Barnstable, Massachusetts where Marguerite's parents and sister were married. "It is a truly special place for both of us", the bride says.

On the October 17th 2024, Marguerite and Alex said, “I do,” in a beautiful ceremony at St. Peter’s Church, Osterville, Massachusetts officiated by Rev. Beth Grundy.

After the two exchanged vows and were declared officially married, they made their grand reception entrance at the Oyster Harbors Club. Then, a delicious meal was served upon tables filled with blooms and candlelight, followed by an ice cream sundae bar! Guests were also treated Aunt Leah’s Fudge favours, from Nantucket brought by a family friend.

For her Fall wedding, Marguerite choose an elegant textured polka dot ballgown which she sourced at Carine’s Bridal Atelier in Washington, DC. She completed her wedding day look with bridal shoes by Badgley Mischka, an initial necklace from Boone & Sons, her mom’s necklace & earrings, her sister’s sash from her wedding and a handmade Nantucket basket purse made by her talented mom.

The bridal party all wore gardenias in their hair, a nod to Marguerite's mom as it's her favourite flower. For the florals, the couple turned to Beach Plum Florals who designed all their romantic blooms.

Alex's suit came from P.M. Jacoy, in San Marino, California which he paired with velvet Stubbs & Wootton loafers and Tiffany Cufflinks. Bridesmaids all wore their own dresses they felt comfortable in, the only request being that it had to be pink. The groomsmen all wore Brooks Brothers ties also in pink to show their support for their bride.

Other elements and details that made their day really special and personal to them included a custom cocktail named after Alex’s grandfather, sweet stationery details and the couple sneaking away to do their IVF shots.

"Alex’s grandfather wrote his grandmother a letter with a cocktail recipe while he was stationed in San Francisco, we had it as our signature cocktail & named it the Presidio Punch. Our planner & stationer worked with our watercolor artist (Susan Albashi, Billington Designs) to surprise us with special touches on our stationery."

"Also, my oncologist recommended an egg retrieval cycle before starting chemo, and we had to do one of the shots during the reception."

The newlyweds shared a first dance to All Your’n by Tyler Childers, and after a while, the party joyfully continued with a late-night evening at the bride's parent’s pool house celebrating the newlyweds through the early morning hours.

After the festivities, the couple went on a minimoon to the Cliff House in Maine. "We loved the spa!", the bride reveals.

After poring though all the details from their utterly fabulous celebration we asked them for their top piece of wedding advice. "Everything comes together the way it should! We didn’t have the day we originally planned, but it was perfect & turned out to be amazing."

A very special thank you to Marguerite and Alex and Sidney Scheinberg for sharing their charming wedding and inspiring story with One Fab Day. There are also plenty more gorgeous photos from their special day to check out in the gallery below!
